Stanton aims return on Friday; Ruggiano out for the season; Solano starting 2B in 2013?
- Updated: September 27, 2012
Giancarlo Stanton couldn’t play tonight because he still feels soreness in his intercostal muscle. He was aiming to play today like we mention before, but he will most likely return for the final homestand starting Friday.

- Justin Ruggiano out for the rest of the season
Meanwhile, Marlins outfielder Justin Ruggiano will be out for the rest of the season due to right shoulder sprain, but there is no surgery required.

Justin Ruggiano, 30, was probably one of the biggest surprises for the Miami Marlins this season. He batted .313/.374/.535 with 13 homers and 36 RBI’s and 14 stolen bases in just 91 games.
- Should Donovan Solano be the Marlins starting second baseman in 2013?
Along with Justin Ruggiano, Donovan Solano is one of those biggest surprises for the Marlins. Solano connected his first two home runs of his career last night. As of today, he’s hitting .295/.343/.382 with 2 homers and 27 RBI’s.
Here’s what Ozzie Guillen thinks about Donovan Solano being the Marlins everyday second baseman in 2013:
Via Juan C. Rodriguez: “He never did it. He’s doing it right now. Maybe we find somebody to help him once in a while. I don’t see why not. He’s facing a good pitching staff. He’s not facing one guy here and one guy there. He’s there every day and handling it very well. Can he play every day in the big leagues? I know he can play half a season in the big leagues. We have to take a look at it. I don’t know what ball club we’re going to have next year.”
I think he will since he’s playing great and also since the Marlins are gonna cut down the payroll, who will they get? Nobody since we have Emilio Bonifacio.
Solano could be an everyday player, but i’ll say at third base since Emilio Bonifacio isn’t so great in that position.
