Hanley Ramirez belted a 3-run blast in the 8th inning to beat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 in Marlins Park, and it was Ozzie Guillen’s return after a 5 game suspension.
After losing 2 straight starts, Josh Johnson was on the mound looking for his 1st win of the season. Sadly he didn’t get the win, but showed a lot of improvement by pitching 7 innings and throwing in the mid 90′s. He finished with 3 strike outs, 3 walks, 2 earned runs, 7 hits and reduced his ERA from 8.38 to 5.94 in 7 innings of work.
Emilio Bonifacio batted the second run for the Fish in the 5th inning that drove Josh Johnson home from 2nd base. Bonifacio ended up going 2 for 2 with 2 walks and an RBI. In the 8th inning, the score was tied 2-2. With runners on first and second and zero outs, Hanley Ramirez hit a 3-run homer to left field to take the lead 5-2.
Hanley Ramirez has shown us that he is better than last year. In the whole entire month of April of 2011, Ramirez batted ZERO homeruns and 9 RBI’s. Now in just 11 games played this year, he already has 3 homers and 10 RBI’s. So he definitively has improved.
Steve Cishek execpt pitched great in the 8th. Heath Bell finally closed out the game perfectly and earned his first save of the season as the Marlins defeated the Cubs, final score: 5-2.
Next Game: The Marlins play their 2nd game against the Chicago Cubs in a 3 game series in Miami. Mark Buehrle will get the start for Miami, while he faces Matt Garza.
