Marlins win in Extra Innings
- Updated: August 22, 2012
The D-backs whipe the sour taste of last nights game out of their mouth by jumping all over the starter Ricky Nolasco 5-0 after the 1st inning. The D-backs send 9 batters to the plate in the first.
The Marlins would not waste much time getting on the board with 2 runs in the 2nd by knocking around Trevor Cahill. The Marlins score another run in the 4th & in the 6th to erase a 5-0 lead.
Stanton hit a ball down the line for a double that was blistered to the corner. If i had to describe Stanton’s swing with one word it would be VIOLENT.
The bullpen comes in and pitches great for both teams. D-backs had 2 on with 1 out and Heath Bell gets Elmore to ground out. Bell throws a 95 MPH fastball to end the inning stranding 2 baserunners.
Top of 9th tie game the marlins get another hit out of Donovan Solano and he is 3 for 3. Brantley flys out to left, Murphy pinch hits and he pops up. so now we go to the bottom of the 9th tied. Chad Gaudin in to pitch for the Marlins and Young grounds out, Arron Hill flys out deep to right field on the warning track. Jason Kubel walks, & Goldschmidt fans at a 83 MPH breaking ball.
So now we head to the 10th. Sam Demel in to pitch the 10th for the Dbacks. Gorkys legs out an infield base hit. Then, Petersen hit a sac bunt and Reyes was intentionally walked. Lee then hits a sac fly to move Gorkys to 3rd. Stanton then steps to the plate with ice in his veins and determination in his eyes and absolutely murders a ball to right field for a RBI & most importantly the lead! Dobbs flys out for out number three.
Steve Cishek in to close facing Parra striking him out. Next batter, Montero K’s on a 93 MPH fastball. Wheeler with a broke bat single and Jake Elmore walks. McDonald grounds out for out 3 and Cishek gets the save! 2
On behalf of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Miami Marlins, @BHPBaseball, & @Marlins_Nation, we’d like to send our thoughts and prayers to MLB Player Union Chief & best wishes to Michael Weiner, a great guy, who is being treated for a brain tumor. #SpeedyRecovery
