Marlins sign Wilson Valdez to a minor league deal

The Miami Marlins have announced that they have signed infielder Wilson Valdez to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league camp.
Valdez, who was released by the Giants yesterday, hit a .206/.236/.227 batting line with 15 RBI’s in in 208 plate appearances with the Reds last season. For his career, the right-handed hitter has a .236/.281/. 313 career line in seven years in the major leagues.
In 18 games this spring, Valdez has a .194 batting average (7-for-36) with two RBI’s, five walks and four strikeouts. Valdez, who will obviously compete for a backup role, can play at shortstop, second baseman and third baseman
