Logan Morrison has changed his number. Cool. Wait a minute… he’s number 5 now? What happened to Carl Barger? This Lomo bit isn’t official yet, but I still have some issues concerning this whole “number 5 issue.”

During the offseason, the Marlins were willing to give their only retired number to Pujols as a little incentive to grab the All-Star Slugger. I had no problem with this until I remembered the story behind why the number was retired in the first place. It was dedicated to the late Marlins President who never got to see his team take the field. It’s a tragic story that should never have been questioned! But the Marlins decided to throw it all away just to give it to Pujols.

Now, some may argue, “hey, its Pujols, Barger would not have minded giving up his number to Pujols, common!” I’m stuck in the middle. I don’t know what to think. Stay dedicated to an old retired number? Or open space for a big name free agent?

Whatever answer you may have, it doesn’t matter anymore…Lomo is the new Marlins number 5.

As a Marlins fan, do you mind this change? Does it matter? Should the fish have respected Barger? Is this showing no disrespect to Barger? You decide.
