Infante, Reyes, and Bonifacio are the Keys to the First 2 Wins
- Updated: April 11, 2012
In last 3 games, Omar Infante has proven that he wants to help the team make the playoffs. Yes, I know they have only played 5 games this season, but the Marlins weren’t hitting anything until Infante almost hit for the cycle. But it was enough to get our first win of the season by defeating the Reds 8 to 3 in Cincinnati.
Infante has a 3 game hitting streak going since our first win against the Reds. Omar is (6 for 18) with 3 home runs and 4 RBI’s. Last year, Infante in the month of April hit (24 for 101) with a batting average of .238 with zero home runs and 10 RBI’s. At this rate, Omar could get 35 hits, 8 homers and 16 RBI’s this month, if he keeps on hitting like he is in the past 3 games.
Other than Infante, new Marlin Jose Reyes who won the batting title last year with the Mets, is experiencing a hitting streak also. He has a 5-hit streak going since opening night in Miami against the St. Louis Cardinals. His longest is a 20-game hitting streak with the Mets in 2005.
While Emilio Bonifacio is leading the Marlins with a .421 batting average, he’s also leading in stolen bases with 4. And, he’s having a 4- game hitting streak.
These 3 players combined have 21 hits in 59 at bats with 11 runs, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homers with 6 RBI’s and 6 stolen bases.
Reminder: Marlins’ bench coach Joey Cora will manage the team while Ozzie Guillen faces his 5 game suspension because of his Fidel Castro comment.
