Ex-Marlin Becomes New Manager
- Updated: November 1, 2012
According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Miami Marlins have hired Mike Redmond as their new manager. Mike Redmond, former Marlins catcher for seven years, has signed a 3-year contract with the Fish.
The 41-year-old finished with a 155-115 record in 2 seasons as a minor league manager. Redmond was named 2011 Midwest League Manager of the Year.
The Miami Marlins will officially announce Mike Redmond as their new manager at a press conference on Friday at Marlins Park.
Since 2006, the Marlins have had seven different managers (Girardi, Gonzalez, Rodriguez, Hyde, McKeon and Guillen). Let’s hope Redmond will at least finish his 3-year contract.
- New infield and first base coach, as well
Also, the Miami Marlins have hired Perry Hill as their infield and first-base coach.
Hill coached the Marlins from 2002 through 2007 and was rehired in 2011. If you didn’t know, Hill is a defensive specialist. The 2003 Marlins (World Championship) had a franchise-best .987 fielding percentage and just 78 errors.
