Errors Cost the Marlins the Ballgame

Three Errors Cost the Marlins the First Game of Four in Milwaukee.

The Marlins took the lead with a 2-run single to left field by Justin Ruggiano in the first inning. But in the bottom of that inning, Carlos Zambrano would get two straight outs but would later hit Ryan Braun and walk 3 straight batters as Milwaukee reduce the lead by one.

In the bottom of the second, the Brewers would tie up the game with a lead off triple by Cesar Izturez and Zack Greinke would bring him in easily with a sac fly to center fielder.

Logan Morrison helped the Fish regain the lead with a RBI double to right field. Next batter, Justin Ruggiano belted a homer to left field that would score Morrison.

Zambrano gave up a solo home run by Carlos Gomez in the 5th inning but, Miami was still up by 2 runs.

The sloppiness began in the fifth inning, when Hanley Ramirez misplayed a ground ball from Nyjer Morgan. Then with 2 runners on base, Gregg Dobbs couldn’t get a pick off throw from Big Z and now both runners were in scoring position but with 2 outs. Zambrano would manage to get Aramis Ramirez to fly out to center for the 3rd out.

Next inning, Hanley made a throwing error to 1st base and Zambrano didn’t help much as he walked the next batter. Martin Maldonado hit a single, and now the bases were loaded for Cesar Izturez. Miami got lucky as he got into a 1-2-3 double play but, Rickie Weeks and Martin Maldonado ended up in scoring position with 2 outs. Travis Ishikawa was up and hit a 2-run singles to tie up the game to 5.

Back-to-back hits got the Marlins in trouble in the 8th. Next batter, Norichika Aoki singled on a bunt ground ball to first baseman Greg Dobbs. Rickie Weeks scored and the Brewers took the lead.

The Marlins couldn’t get a rally going in the ninth as John Axford got a 1-2-3 inning and the Brewers won the 1st game of four in Milwaukee.

Next game, which is on Tuesday, starts at 4:10 pm. Anibal will start for Miami as he faces Marco Estrada.
